Listed monuments in the WWS

Listed-monument status can lead in the WWS to a fixed points surcharge or to an adjustment of a negative energy contribution, depending on the type of monument status (such as a national monument, municipal monument, or protected townscape/village view).

Homes with listed-monument status can receive separate treatment in the WWS. For some monument categories, a fixed points surcharge is awarded independently of the other components of the count, recognising the special status and often also the special maintenance burden of such buildings.

In addition, monument status can affect how any negative contribution from the energy label is processed. Because making a protected monument more sustainable is often harder or subject to stricter rules, an otherwise negative energy contribution can be reduced to zero for certain monument categories, instead of lowering the overall total.

Several categories exist, such as national monuments (subdivided by the moment of registration), municipal monuments, and buildings within a protected townscape or village view. Not every category receives the same treatment; the rules differ per category and must therefore be checked specifically for each building.

When in doubt about a building's status, the official monument register of the municipality or national government is the appropriate source to consult, since an incorrect assumption about monument status can directly affect this part of the points count.
