Heating and cooling in the WWS

Heated rooms and other spaces earn points in the WWS, and cooled rooms can earn points as well, subject to a maximum on the number of spaces that count toward cooling.

Whether a space is heated plays a role in the points count: heated rooms generally earn more points than unheated rooms, and other spaces (such as a storage room) can also earn points if connected to a heat source, up to a certain maximum number of spaces.

In addition, cooling, for example via a fixed air-conditioning installation, can earn separate points for rooms that can be cooled. A maximum generally applies to the number of spaces eligible for cooling points, regardless of how many spaces actually have cooling installed.

When counting points, it is important to establish per space whether there is a fixed heating or cooling facility, rather than a freestanding or portable unit. A mobile air conditioner or a loose electric heater generally does not count in the same way as a permanently installed facility.

Because this component is relatively limited in points compared with, for example, surface area, it is rarely decisive on its own, but for homes sitting close to a segment threshold, this component can still make a difference.

Checklist

  • Heated rooms generally earn more points than unheated rooms
  • Heated other spaces count up to a certain maximum
  • Cooling via a fixed installation can earn separate points, capped at a maximum number of spaces
  • Only fixed facilities count, not loose or portable equipment
  • Relevant for homes sitting close to a segment threshold
